India’s dedication to wetland preservation hits a high note with the Ramsar listing of Patna Bird Sanctuary in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhari-Dhand wetland in Gujarat’s Kutch district. Announced by Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, the inclusions expand India’s network of protected sites ahead of World Wetlands Day.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath celebrated the news on X, framing it as proof of PM Modi’s farsighted leadership in environmental protection. He described the policy-driven journey that integrates security, conservation, and development, saluting the efforts of Etawah residents and all involved.

The Prime Minister himself took to X to express joy, congratulating everyone from local inhabitants to dedicated activists. Modi highlighted how these honors affirm India’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem defense, wishing for the wetlands to remain vibrant habitats.

These sites are ecological gems: Patna teems with birdlife, offering sanctuary to migrants, while Chhari-Dhand’s saline marshes support unique flora and fauna. Their Ramsar status mandates wise use, ensuring sustainability amid developmental pressures.

This achievement aligns with India’s broader climate goals, enhancing carbon sinks and resilience against disasters. It also opens doors for eco-tourism, generating revenue while educating visitors on conservation.

As global scrutiny on environmental health intensifies, these recognitions bolster India’s reputation. They reflect a holistic approach where government, communities, and nature converge for long-term planetary health.
