    Sports Desk. In the final of Ranji Trophy 2024, Mumbai has won the title for the record 42nd time (42nd Ranji title for Mumbai) by defeating Vidarbha by 169 runs. It took Mumbai 8 years to win this title, before that it had won the Ranji title by defeating Saurashtra in 2015-16.

    In the final played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Vidarbha captain Akshay Wadkar won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Mumbai scored 224 runs in its first innings. In reply, Vidarbha's first innings was reduced to 105 runs. In their second innings, Mumbai scored 418 runs and their total lead was 537 runs and set a target of 538 runs for Vidarbha. In reply, Vidarbha team was all out for 368 runs in its second innings. With this, Mumbai won the match by 169 runs. Mumbai won the Ranji title for the first time by defeating Northern India in the year 1934-35.

    These Mumbai players created a stir in the finals

    Tanush Kotian took maximum 4 wickets in the second innings for Mumbai. Whereas, Tushar Deshpande and Musheer Khan got 2-2 wickets. Shams Mulani and Dhawal Kulkarni were successful in taking 1-1 wicket. Apart from this, Mumbai's young batsman Musheer Khan played an inning of 136 runs in the final, while Shreyas Iyer (95) and captain Ajinkya Rahane (73) played an important role in helping Mumbai win the title.

    Whereas in response to Mumbai's 224 runs in the first innings, Vidarbha team could score only 105 runs in the first innings. In the second innings for Vidarbha, captain Akshay Wadkar scored 102 runs while Harsh Dubey scored 65 runs. But apart from this, no other Vidarbha batsman could play well at the crease and Mumbai won the match.
