Ranveer Singh is facing legal repercussions after imitating a sacred ritual depicted in the critically acclaimed film ‘Kantara Chapter 1’. The actor recreated the performance of Chavundi Daiva, a revered spiritual figure, during his address at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28.

This act has prompted a legal complaint from Prashanth Metal, an advocate based in Bengaluru. The complaint, filed with the High Grounds Police Station, describes Singh’s imitation of the Ullalthi Daiva as “illegal and offensive,” asserting that it has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Tulu community and other Hindu devotees. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Adding fuel to the fire, Singh is also accused of uttering disrespectful comments about the Ullalthi Daiva during his IFFI speech. This controversy comes after Singh released a public apology, explaining that his performance was an act of admiration for Rishab Shetty’s powerful portrayal. He reiterated his respect for India’s diverse cultural heritage and offered an unequivocal apology for any harm caused by his actions.
