The decision to leave out Jasprit Bumrah from the Birmingham Test has drawn criticism, particularly from former Indian captain Ravi Shastri. After losing the first Test, India had a week’s rest, giving Bumrah ample time to recover. However, he was not included in the playing XI for the Birmingham Test. Shastri stated that he was surprised by this decision, underlining the significance of the match. He believes the team should be playing aggressively, suggesting that the captain and coach should have selected Bumrah. This comes after the team had a defensive approach. Bumrah’s wife had also requested him to play the entire series.
