History was made in Perth on January 25 as Scorchers claimed their unprecedented sixth Big Bash League title, dismissing Sydney Sixers for 132 and chasing it down with six wickets and plenty to spare. This latest conquest adds to their illustrious haul from 2013/14, 2014/15, 2016/17, 2021/22, and 2022/23.

Sixers, put in after the toss loss, never gained momentum, collapsing on the last ball for 132. Daniel Hughes fell early for 7. Josh Philippe paired with Steve Smith for 27 runs, Smith departing for a brisk 24 off 13. Philippe (24) and Moises Henriques (24) then added 32, but the innings fizzled.

Perth’s attack was led by Jhye Richardson and David Payne’s identical hauls of three wickets, Mahli Beardman with two, and Aaron Hardie one. The low total invited a straightforward chase, but Scorchers made it entertaining.

Openers Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen blazed 80 in 50 balls; Allen’s 36 (22 balls, 4×4, 1×6) lit up the ground. Hardie scored 5 before Marsh (44 off 43, 4×4, 2×6) and Josh Inglis (29*) sealed the deal in 17.3 overs with a 33-run stand.

Sydney’s bowlers fought back via Sean Abbott’s two wickets, with Mitchell Starc and Jack Edwards claiming one apiece. This victory highlights Perth’s balanced squad, blending experience and youth seamlessly. As confetti rained down, Scorchers fans celebrated a dynasty’s continuation, positioning them as BBL’s gold standard.
