Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh – The holy city of Ayodhya has set a new benchmark for Diwali celebrations, achieving two Guinness World Records during its 9th annual Deepotsav in 2025. A staggering 2.6 million earthen lamps were lit, transforming the Sarayu River banks into a shimmering spectacle of divine light.

The record for the most earthen lamps lit simultaneously was broken with an incredible 2,617,215 diyas illuminating the landscape. This remarkable achievement was the result of meticulous planning and the dedicated participation of over 2.6 million people, including residents, more than 32,000 university students, and the district administration.

Further cementing the event’s historic nature, 2,128 priests performed a Mahaaarti together, setting a second Guinness World Record. This synchronized religious ceremony was a profound display of unity and devotion, resonating with the spiritual fervor of the festival.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Deepotsav, a festival that has flourished since 2017, showcasing Ayodhya’s rich cultural heritage and spiritual significance. He highlighted the importance of faith and the resilience of truth, referencing the city’s journey and the establishment of the Ram Temple.

The visual splendor was amplified by a captivating Ramayan-themed laser and light show, enhancing the magical atmosphere. The convergence of traditional lamp lighting with modern spectacle created an unforgettable experience for all who witnessed it, solidifying the Ayodhya Deepotsav as a major pilgrimage and cultural event.
