Bihar’s opposition heavyweight, Rashtriya Janata Dal, has thrown down the gauntlet to the state government: issue a white paper on how public money is being spent. The call aims to pierce the veil of secrecy shrouding government finances.

Speaking to reporters, senior RJD figures lambasted the ruling dispensation for evading scrutiny on expenditure patterns. They cited examples from irrigation projects to healthcare initiatives where funds appear to have vanished into thin air.

‘It’s time for a full disclosure,’ declared the party chief, urging the formation of an independent audit committee to compile the document. This comes against a backdrop of public discontent over rising taxes without visible development.

Data from recent fiscal years shows Bihar grappling with high debt levels, making transparent spending crucial for sustainable growth. RJD’s push could resonate with voters disillusioned by unfulfilled promises.

While allies in the NDA camp dismissed the demand as political posturing, pressure is mounting for a substantive reply. The white paper, if released, could set a precedent for accountability in Indian federal politics, offering a roadmap for future governance reforms.
