India observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14th to commemorate the division that occurred 78 years ago, resulting in the creation of India and Pakistan. This day is observed to pay respects to those who suffered during the partition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the hardships and pain experienced by numerous individuals during that difficult period, while also acknowledging their resilience in starting anew after facing immense loss. The day further serves as a tribute to their capacity to overcome adversity and build successful lives. Modi underlined the necessity to reinforce the ties that unify the country. Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences, claiming the Congress party was responsible for dividing the country, leading to widespread violence and displacement. He offered his respects to those who lost their lives. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered the tragic events of 1947 and the loss of life, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to social harmony. India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. The partition caused one of the largest migrations in human history, impacting around 20 million people. Numerous families had to abandon their homes, becoming refugees, and starting new lives.
