In an effort to improve road safety, the government will mandate the installation of Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) on all new two-wheelers from January 2026. This decision addresses the increasing number of road accidents. Dealerships will also have to provide two BIS-certified helmets with each new vehicle. The new regulation is primarily aimed at reducing accidents caused by skidding and reducing head injuries. The implementation of the new rules will likely lead to an increase in prices, especially for entry-level models. The estimated price hike for some models ranges from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 due to the addition of ABS hardware. The Ministry will soon issue detailed guidelines to facilitate a smooth transition.
