Russian forces announced the downing of 112 Ukrainian drones in a 24-hour period. The Russian defence ministry confirmed this. The strikes reportedly focused on port infrastructure, which has been identified as being utilized for military operations. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia launched a large-scale attack with 598 drones and 31 missiles across Ukraine, heavily targeting the capital city, Kyiv. The attacks hit nearly 33 different locations across all 10 districts of the capital, causing damage to numerous buildings and shopping malls.

On August 27, a missile strike on a residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district resulted in at least 22 fatalities, including four children. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned rescue operations had been completed at the site and cleanup efforts were ongoing. He conveyed his condolences to the affected families.
