The SA20 2025-26 auction saw some surprising omissions as teams finalized their rosters. Temba Bavuma, the South African captain who led his team to an ICC title, went unsold. Despite his recent success, including winning the World Test Championship, and previous experience in the SA20, where he scored 85 runs in 5 matches, he wasn’t picked.

James Anderson, the England fast-bowling icon, also failed to secure a contract. The veteran bowler, who holds the record for the most Test wickets, was previously unselected in the IPL 2025. Concerns about his current form, demonstrated by his performance in The Hundred 2025, may have played a role.

Moeen Ali, the England all-rounder, was another prominent player who did not find a team. His recent form, including his time with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025, may have been a factor. He is currently participating in the CPL 2025.

Jason Roy, the former England opening batsman, was also overlooked. His performance in The Hundred 2025 for Southern Brave, where he scored 198 runs in 8 matches, was not enough to garner interest from teams.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman, also failed to be selected. His recent form, including a subdued performance in IPL 2025 and a previous SA20 season with Pretoria Capitals, may have contributed. He scored 132 runs in his last 10 T20I matches.

Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladeshi fast bowler, was not picked in the auction. Rahman, who played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025, had expressed interest in the league, but did not receive a bid. He represents Bangladesh in all three formats.
