An explosion at an open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh has resulted in injuries to three workers, including two women. The incident, which took place at the Chirmiri mine operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) on Monday afternoon, occurred during the preparation for a routine blasting operation. A team was reportedly in the process of setting explosives when a premature detonation took place. The blast caused an immediate outbreak of rock fragments, injuring the workers and affecting vehicles in the area. All three injured individuals were rushed to the SECL hospital in Kurasia and are reported to be stable and recovering. An official inquiry has been launched to determine the root cause of the blast, with initial indications leaning towards a technical issue. Safety protocols and equipment integrity are under review, and operations have been temporarily suspended to ensure the well-being of all personnel.
