Combat sports coaches in India now have a powerful new ally in their training arsenal, thanks to the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) latest sports science workshop. The event marked a milestone in professional development, equipping mentors with evidence-based methodologies to unlock athlete potential.
Structured around four pillars—physiology, psychology, technology, and recovery—the workshop featured 20+ sessions packed with revelations. Coaches learned to use wearable tech for real-time feedback and biochemical markers for fatigue management. Group discussions tackled discipline-specific issues, from grapplers’ joint health to strikers’ power generation.
A standout feature was the collaboration with top national institutes, bringing interdisciplinary expertise under one roof. ‘Science isn’t replacing tradition; it’s enhancing it,’ noted SAI’s head of sports science. The hands-on approach ensured immediate applicability.
As the workshop wrapped up, feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Coaches pledged to integrate learnings into national camps ahead of major championships. SAI plans to make this an annual affair, expanding to other disciplines. This proactive step positions Indian combat sports for a golden era.
