Raipur. Municipal corporation contractors have warned for the second time within a month that about 3800 employees will stop work if the pending amount of four months is not paid. Today, the contractors along with the Corporation’s Deputy Leader of Opposition Manoj Verma met the officials, where there was a fierce dispute between the two parties. While discussing with Finance Department officer Krishna Khatik, the contractors raised questions regarding the pending payment, but Khatik asked all the contractors not to raise the bills. When contractors complained about non-payment of bills of employees of various departments, the officer shrugged it off.

Let us tell you that an amount of Rs 15 crore has not been paid for four months to more than 40 contractors of the corporation, which includes 3800 sanitation workers. Employees also have to be paid extra money during Diwali, but the contractors do not have enough money. In view of this situation, the contractors have demanded release of money within two days, otherwise they have warned of stopping the work.

Payment pending against officials due to negligence – Manoj Verma

Deputy Leader of Opposition Manoj Verma accused the officials of negligence and said that those who are responsible for running the city system are not being given money. He warned that if the pending payment amount was not released, all the sanitation workers would be forced to gherao the corporation.

Payment may not have been made due to non-billing – Additional Commissioner

In this matter, Additional Commissioner and Health Officer Rajendra Gupta said that the zone itself takes the contract of sanitation workers, hence integrity verification is done at the zone level. After the complete process, the file reaches the corporation, after which the payment process starts. He said that payment might not have been made due to non-billing.

The dual attitude of the officials is clearly visible in this entire matter. On one hand, non-payment of bills is being cited as the reason for pending payment, while on the other hand, even the bills are not being paid. If the decision to stop the work of contractors is implemented, there will be a major impact on the city system.
