Maruti Suzuki will launch its new SUV, the Victoris, on September 3rd. Initially speculated to be named the Escudo, the model is officially the Victoris, as confirmed by a trademark. The SUV’s internal codename is Y17. The name was indirectly confirmed when it appeared briefly in search results on Maruti Suzuki’s official website. Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in the Maruti Suzuki lineup, the Victoris will use Suzuki’s Global C platform, allowing for potential cost savings. The new SUV could be slightly longer than the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The segment is competitive, with the upcoming Kia Seltos facelift, Skoda Kushaq facelift, and Volkswagen Taigun facelift intensifying competition. Suzuki plans to differentiate itself with strategic pricing and features. The Victoris will likely share engines with the Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. This includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 103 PS and 139 Nm of torque. It will be available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, along with an optional Suzuki AllGrip AWD system. A 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain will also be offered. The Victoris will be sold through Suzuki’s Arena showrooms. A CNG variant is also a possibility, expected to deliver 88 PS in CNG mode. The Hyundai Creta currently holds a dominant market share. The official launch date for the Victoris is September 3rd, 2025.
