Donald Trump has chosen Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India. Gor, who previously served as the White House Director of Personnel, will also be the Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. This appointment is noteworthy due to Gor’s close ties with Trump and the controversies surrounding his background. This article delves into the life and career of Sergio Gor.

Trump announced Gor’s appointment on social media, stating his pleasure. Gor responded, expressing his gratitude and the honor of leading the US.

Born in Uzbekistan in 1986, Gor’s family later resided in Malta before immigrating to the United States in 1999. He attended school in Los Angeles and later studied at George Washington University, initially under the name Gorokhovsky before shortening it to Gor.

Gor has been involved in politics, including working on John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and with Senator Rand Paul.

He served as the Chief of Staff for the Trump Victory Finance Committee in June 2020, and later as an advisor and book publishing manager for Donald Trump Jr. In November 2024, Gor was appointed the White House Director of Personnel.

Gor’s name surfaced in a dispute between Elon Musk and Trump, with Musk referring to Gor as a ‘snake’. This came after claims Gor had not completed security clearance paperwork.

The White House maintained that Gor had fulfilled all requirements for his clearance.

Gor’s birthplace is not explicitly stated. While his name is well known, his place of birth has never been clarified. Gor has not provided any information about it. Some sources suggest Kazakhstan. Some reports mentioned that he is a migrant from Malta. Most sources indicate that his place of birth is Tajikistan.

Gor has connections to Russia, including a trip to Moscow with Rand Paul to discuss Russia-US relations. There are also reports of a prior trip to Moscow in 2017, the reason for which is unclear.

Trump announced Gor’s appointment on social media, highlighting Gor’s long-standing relationship with him. Gor will continue in his current position until his appointment is confirmed.

Gor has expressed his gratitude for the appointment and expressed his honor. Eric Garcetti held the previous position of US Ambassador to India until January 2025. Sergio Gor has been appointed to this position.
