The American Embassy in New Delhi buzzed with activity on Monday as Sergio Gor assumed duties as the new US Ambassador to India. A special welcome program celebrated his arrival, during which the envoy recounted his first-day impressions and extended thanks to the embassy’s proficient team.

On X, Gor shared his excitement: ‘Namaste! First day at the US Embassy New Delhi. Feeling privileged to join this outstanding team and keen to advance President Trump’s priorities, deepening the America-India partnership. Optimistic about our shared future under President Trump’s guidance.’

Speaking at the event, the ambassador addressed pressing bilateral issues, particularly trade. He confirmed that negotiations on the trade agreement would restart on Tuesday, January 13. ‘You’ve sought updates on the trade talks—we’re in constant dialogue. Tuesday brings the next round. India’s scale as the largest democracy complicates closure, yet we’re committed. Trade is vital, but so are our joint efforts in security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health sectors.’

Declaring India the US’s top partner, Gor articulated his mission: ‘No partnership surpasses India’s importance. My ambassadorship will pursue a vast agenda ahead, as authentic strategic partners contributing strength, dignity, and direction.’

Gor highlighted the leaders’ camaraderie, stating, ‘Traveling globally with President Trump, I’ve seen his true friendship with PM Modi firsthand. US-India links transcend self-interest to profound connections. Friends differ but reconcile.’

This transition heralds intensified efforts to broaden the comprehensive alliance, navigating trade complexities while reinforcing synergies in defense, innovation, and beyond, poised for impactful outcomes.
