The TV9 Festival of India is underway in Delhi, promising five days of musical performances. Singer Shaan, a prominent figure in the music industry, is scheduled to perform at the Lifestyle Expo and Durga Puja celebrations on October 1. This article highlights Shaan’s career, especially focusing on his early days as a singer.

Born Shantanu Mukherjee in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, on September 30, 1972, Shaan has made his mark in multiple languages. His work extends across Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu, with thousands of songs in his repertoire. This piece will detail his journey from his debut song to becoming a famous playback singer.

At the age of 12, Shaan entered the music scene, singing jingles. A key moment arrived when Vidhu Vinod Chopra, seeking a specific voice for a song in ‘Parinda,’ found Shaan through an advertisement. The 1989 film ‘Parinda’ featured Shaan’s vocals in ‘Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Humari,’ alongside Suresh Wadkar, Shailendra Singh, and Sagarika.

Even though the song was not a major hit, it marked Shaan’s entry into the Bollywood music scene. The song was recorded in 1988, when Shaan was around 15 years old. Shaan gained significant recognition in 1999 with the song ‘Musu Musu Hasi Dil Malai Lai’ from the film ‘Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi’. In 2000, his album ‘Tanha Dil’ was released, which was a major success. This success established him as a well-regarded playback singer.

Shaan’s collection of hit songs is expansive. Some of the popular songs include ‘Chand Sifarish’, ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’, ‘Hey Shona’, ‘Mai Dil Goz Hummm’, ‘Where’s The Party Tonight’, ‘Char Kadam’, ‘Kuch Toh Hua Hai’, ‘Tune Mujhe Pehchana Nahi’, ‘Yeh Ladki Kyun’, ‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh’, ‘Koi Nahi Hai Kamre Mein’, ‘Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe Kitna Bhi Humko Deewana’, ‘It’s Time To Disco’ and ‘Partner Title Track’.
