Jannik Sinner, currently ranked No. 1, launched his Cincinnati Open bid with a commanding win, defeating Daniel Elahi Galan with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in just 59 minutes. The Italian player’s rapid victory propelled him into the next round, signaling his intent in the tournament.

Back on the court since his Wimbledon victory against Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner demonstrated his prowess on the hard courts. He seamlessly transitioned from grass to hard court, employing effective ball-striking and assertive baseline play.

Sinner gained a strong lead early in the first set, going up 5-0 in just 15 minutes, putting pressure on Galan, who is ranked 144th in the world. The 23-year-old maintained this momentum into the second set, securing a break and finishing with three aces, thereby achieving the fastest victory in his ATP Tour career.

After the match, Sinner talked about his win, acknowledging the difficulties of playing in Cincinnati while expressing his satisfaction. He stated, “I didn’t know what to expect. I am happy because it’s not easy to play here. The ball is flying, and you have to serve very precisely if you want to go far in the tournament.”

This win also marked Sinner’s 22nd consecutive hard-court victory, starting from last September’s loss to Alcaraz in the Beijing final. Since winning the Cincinnati title in 2024, Sinner has a strong record of 48-2 in major events, reinforcing his position as a top contender.

Sinner now prepares for the round of 32, where he will face Canada’s Gabriel Diallo, as he aims to retain his title.
