Khunti district’s law enforcement has successfully intercepted six high-capacity trucks engaged in the illegal sand trade within the Jariagarh region. The major bust occurred early Wednesday morning near Buxpur, executed by the Jariagarh police. The seized vehicles, including those registered as JH01FD 2807, JH01 0634, JH01FR 0106, JH01FR 1260, JH01FM 1402, and JH02BQ 3032, have been brought to the police station for further legal processing. This operation addresses the long-standing issue of illegal sand mining and transportation that has plagued the Jariagarh area for years. Locals have previously voiced their opposition to this illicit business, though it’s understood that some community members have been involved. The trigger for the recent raid was an attempt by some villagers on Tuesday night to stop vehicles carrying illegal sand. Responding swiftly, a joint team from the forest department and police initiated the operation. Many drivers managed to flee with their trucks, but the confiscation of six vehicles represents a substantial achievement. While acknowledging the police’s efforts, residents are calling for continuous crackdowns to ensure the complete cessation of the illegal sand trade in the region.
