Smriti Mandhana delivered an unforgettable performance against Australia in the Women’s World Cup, rewriting the record books for ODI cricket. The Indian vice-captain achieved a historic first, becoming the inaugural woman to surpass 1,000 runs in a single calendar year in the format. This landmark achievement underscores her exceptional talent and consistency.

Adding to her historic day, Mandhana also crossed the 5,000-run mark in her ODI career. She set new records for being the youngest and fastest player to reach this milestone, both in terms of innings played and deliveries faced. Her batting display was a masterclass, leaving spectators and statisticians in awe.

Mandhana’s 1,068 runs in 2025 now stand as the highest tally for a calendar year in women’s ODIs, eclipsing previous records. She also became the fifth player to reach 5,000 career ODI runs but did so with unprecedented speed, outpacing legends like Stafanie Taylor and Suzie Bates. Her streak of five consecutive half-centuries against Australia is another extraordinary record. The 155-run opening partnership she forged with Pratika Rawal gave India a formidable start in the crucial match.
