Sonipat Earthquake Wakes Up Residents in Haryana

An earthquake rattled Sonipat, Haryana, at around 1:47 AM on Friday, with a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in Sonipat, at 28.99 degrees North latitude and 76.97 degrees East longitude, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Residents were awakened by the tremors, some of whom evacuated their homes. This area is considered prone to earthquakes. Officials have advised residents to be cautious. Delhi-NCR is susceptible to earthquakes because it lies within Seismic Zone-4, which is prone to earthquakes. The region’s proximity to the Himalayan collision zone, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates interact, contributes to the frequent occurrence of tremors. Active fault lines, like the Sohna fault and the Yamuna River alignment, also play a role.
