The countdown is on for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2027 in Malta, scheduled from October 29 to November 4. Kicking off with the opening ceremony on the 29th, the main events run October 30 to November 4, drawing 1,200 promising athletes aged 14-18 from across 74 Commonwealth nations.

Competitors will tackle eight disciplines: athletics with para events, swimming and para swimming, netball, sailing, squash, triathlon, water polo, and weightlifting. Hosting duties spread over seven venues on Malta and Gozo – Cottonera Indoor Pool, Tal-Qroqq National Pool, Marsa Athletics Stadium, Marsa Sports Centre, Mellieha Bay, Gozo Indoor Sports Pavilion, and Marsalforn Bay.

History in the making: the largest-ever para sports integration, evolving from 2023’s Trinidad milestone, plus first-time inclusions of sailing and water polo. Born in Edinburgh 2000, these games remain a crucial bridge to elite international careers.

Commonwealth Sport CEO Katie Sadlier captured the buzz: “Malta 2027 offers electrifying rivalry and showcases island sports prowess. Premier infrastructure will spark profound growth in young athletes, shaping future legends. We’re thrilled.”

Sports Minister Clifton Grima of Malta noted: “Through facility enhancements and groundbreaking new sites, we’re building performance ecosystems. These games will maximize this world-class foundation, with ripple effects for events, locals, and youth long-term.”

This spectacle positions Malta as a beacon for inclusive, high-stakes youth athletics.
