Sports enthusiasts were electrified when ICC Chairman Jay Shah, at the SJFI national conference in New Delhi, hinted strongly at India hosting the 2036 Olympics. ‘Prepare well for it—you know where it will be,’ he told the gathering on March 15.

Shah, transitioning from BCCI secretary to ICC helm in 2024, linked his call to prior successes. ‘From BCCI, I readied for up to 2028. Now, target 2030 Commonwealth Games, 2032 Brisbane Olympics, and 2036,’ outlining a roadmap for India’s sports ascent.

He vividly recounted cricket’s prosperous 2019-2026 span: dual U19 World Cups each for men and women, WTC final berths, Men’s ODI final, Women’s ODI title, T20 World Cups, and Champions Trophy. ‘A golden era thanks to collective efforts,’ Shah affirmed.

Spotlighting the fresh T20 World Cup, Shah congratulated India, semi-final powerhouses England and South Africa, New Zealand’s finalists run, and associates’ heroics—USA’s near-win over India, Netherlands’ Pakistan scare, Nepal’s England battle, Zimbabwe’s Australia shock. These elevated global cricket’s competitiveness.

Evoking emotions, Shah honored the 25th anniversary of the 2001 Eden Test triumph, where VVS Laxman (281) and Rahul Dravid (180) orchestrated a 276-run rout. Shah’s clarion call inspires a united push toward making 2036 Olympics a reality.
