Sunday’s New Delhi Marathon is breaking all barriers with a staggering 30,000-plus registrants, turning the capital into a sea of pounding feet and waving flags. Vijender Singh, the Olympic boxing hero, and Rohan Bopanna, the tennis maestro, will give the green signal from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Representing 31 countries, 490 cities, and every corner of India, the field is the most diverse yet. Categories span full marathon to 5K, featuring stars like Anish Thapa, Gopi T, Man Singh, and elites such as Dr. Kartik and Ashwini Jadhav. Its status as an Asian Games qualifier amps up the intensity.
Heartwarming moments await with 20 blind athletes joining the fray, proving limits are made to be challenged. The event has collected Rs 10 lakh for the Athletics Federation of India, earmarked for nurturing young talents with superior training resources.
‘We’re thrilled by this unprecedented inclusivity and international flavor,’ said NEB Sports’ Nagraj Adiga. ‘The marathon embodies human potential, uniting people in a shared pursuit of excellence.’
From early morning preparations to post-race festivities, the marathon promises inspiration for all, reinforcing Delhi’s place on the global running map.
