By India Today Web Desk: 18-year-old Linda Noskova threw up an enormous shock after she defeated World No.8 Daria Kasatkina in Round 1 of the Adelaide International on Monday, January 2. The qualifier from the Czech Republic defeated the 2022 French Open semi-finalist 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3 on Centre Court.

Facing a participant within the prime 10 of the WTA rankings for the primary time, Noskova confirmed nerves of metal. In reality, going into her match in opposition to Kasatkina, Noskova had misplaced each her matches in opposition to gamers within the prime 20. Kasatkina was the third seed within the Adelaide International.

“It’s been a lot of ups and downs but I think it was a really good season. I started around 300, I think, and then around 100 now, so it’s a pretty good progress,” Noskova was quoted as saying.

“Obviously, I need to pick it up a little bit to get back into the [top] 100 but, hopefully, I’m going to achieve it this year,” she acknowledged.

In the meantime, it wasn’t Noskova’s most memorable win on the tennis courtroom. Last yr, she teamed up with compatriot Lucie Hradecka and defeated the legendary duo of Serena Williams and Venus Williams in straight units within the girls’s doubles on the US Open.

“The Prague Open was a really successful tournament for me, but as a tournament experience I would say the US Open for sure. I qualified, played the first match, which was good as well, and then the doubles,” Noskova stated of her highlights in 2022.

Noskova is subsequent set to lock horns with an undecided opponent within the Round of 16 match on Tuesday, January 2. She will face the winner of the match between Australia’s Priscilla Hon and USA qualifier Claire Liu.
