Cricket fans in Tamil Nadu are reacting to the news of Vijay Shankar’s departure, as the prominent all-rounder is set to join Tripura. After playing for the TNCA President’s XI in the Buchi Babu tournament, Shankar, aged 34, obtained his No Objection Certificate and is moving on, ending his 13-year association with Tamil Nadu. Since his debut in the 2011-12 season, Shankar has been a pivotal member of Tamil Nadu’s team, delivering crucial performances and contributing with the ball. His consistent form, including scoring 476 runs at 52.88 in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, underscores his value. The move to Tripura follows a period marked by injuries, team adjustments, and rest from important matches, which likely led to his decision to explore new avenues. Shankar has played 70 First-Class matches, scoring 3,702 runs at 45.14, with 11 centuries. He helped Tamil Nadu win the Vijay Hazare and Deodhar Trophies in 2016-17, as well as the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 title in 2021-22. His departure marks the end of a chapter for Tamil Nadu cricket, while providing Shankar with a fresh start to potentially excel and potentially make a comeback to the IPL. The move may also provide new opportunities for younger players within the Tamil Nadu team.
