Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham switch to differ perceptions about Aussie coaches: Graham Arnold

Ange Postecoglou’s switch to Tottenham Hotspur must open the door for various Australian managers to show in Europe’s prime soccer leagues, Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has acknowledged.

Postecoglou, who guided Scottish membership Celtic to a house treble, is about to sign a two-year deal to take over Tottenham and develop to be the first Australian to show an English Premier League side, British media reported.

Though Australia has produced a slew of world-class avid gamers, the nation’s coaches have prolonged been missed by essential European golf tools.

That is perhaps set to differ, acknowledged Arnold, who matched wits with Postecoglou as opposing A-League coaches for years.

“We’ve got some great young coaches in the A-League and overseas,” Arnold suggested reporters on Tuesday. “Kevin Muscat is doing fantastic (in Japan). These guys will end up overseas. Ange is the leader of that pathway.”

Muscat gained Japan’s house championship as coach of Yokohama F. Marinos remaining 12 months, three years after Postecoglou guided the membership to the 2019 title.

Former Socceroos defender Patrick Kisnorbo, who coached Melbourne City to the 2021 A-League title, turned the first Australian to show in France’s prime flight after crossing to Troyes remaining 12 months.

“You need someone to open the eyes of people around the world to say, ‘Oh, the Australian coaches might not be so bad’,” Arnold acknowledged.

Arnold backed Postecoglou for achievement at Tottenham, describing him as a soccer obsessive who attracts motivation from proving of us unsuitable.
“I always knew that he had that mentality of where he wanted to go, that was to the top,” he acknowledged. “Going to Tottenham I think is a great fit for him and I think he’ll kill it.”
