By India Today Web Desk: Former batter Sanjay Manjrekar reckoned that Australia can’t afford to use England’s talked-about ‘Bazball’ techniques on their upcoming Border-Gavaskar collection in India.
Last 12 months, England, captained by Ben Stokes, gained their Test collection in opposition to Pakistan 3-0 after their batters performed aggressive cricket and put strain on the opposition bowling.
However, Manjrekar stated that the Australian batters taking the identical method within the four-match Test collection in opposition to India may become ‘hazardous’.
The veteran was of the opinion that pitches in Pakistan allowed batters to play their pictures in comparison with India, the place survival can become a tricky process.
“The big difference between pitches in India and Pakistan is obviously turn. The history of all touring teams coming to India and playing on our pitches says that batters have struggled to survive, forget about scoring quickly and getting runs on the board. So that is the basic difference,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo.
“Even when Pakistan played a lot of cricket in the UAE, the pitches allowed foreign teams to come in and get some runs on the board. England went one step further and dominated, but the pitches allowed them to do that. Australia shouldn’t be considering that as an option regardless of their abilities in doing what England did in Pakistan,” he acknowledged.
“The pitches are completely different and to play that brand of cricket, maybe one guy can do it down the order against certain spinners. Rishabh Pant has done that individually, but as a team, to come in with that tactic is going to be hazardous. The thing is you need to go in there and find out for yourself what you need to do to survive,” Manjrekar added.
During the identical interview, former batter Ian Chappell additionally stated that the Australian batters ought to attempt to do one thing audacious to style success on spin-friendly pitches in India.
