At the Miami Open, Coco Gauff proved why she’s a top contender, rallying from a set down to dismantle fellow American Alicia Parks 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 and book her Round of 16 berth. The 22-year-old, marking her fourth time reaching this stage here, is laser-focused on her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal.

Gauff’s match began with promise—a break for 2-0—but Parks countered ferociously, snatching six straight games for a 6-2 set. Gauff regrouped masterfully, blanking the second set and taking the third 6-1, saving key breaks in a 110-minute thriller.

Reflecting on the win, Gauff noted, ‘She’s streaky—brilliant one moment, vulnerable the next. I tipped too far into caution early on. Aggressive returns flipped the momentum in my favor later.’

Since 2025 kicked off, Gauff boasts 11 WTA wins after dropping a set, tied for second behind Pegula’s 13. Her 104 WTA 1000 triumphs rank her second among post-2000 talents, with Swiatek leading at 130.

Awaiting is Sorana Cirstea, wrapping up her career after a 6-3, 6-2 upset of Mertens. Gauff beat her once before in Melbourne 2022. As stakes rise, Gauff’s blend of grit and skill positions her perfectly for a historic run.
