Commonwealth Games 2022: Vikas Thakur wins silver, India’s eighth medal in Weightlifting

Weightlifter Vikas Thakur received silver within the males’s 96kg closing, giving India its second medal of the day and sustaining the nation’s love affair with weightlifting on the Commonwealth Games 2022.

India’s Vikas Thakur received the silver medal within the males’s 96kg class Weightlifting occasion on the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Tuesday. Vikas lifted a mixed weight of 346kg(155kg within the Snatch and 199kg within the Clean and Jerk) to complete second. This is Vikas Thakur’s third Commonwealth Games medal as he received silver in Glasgow 2014 and bronze in Gold Coast 2018.

The Indian weightlifting contingent have now received eight medals at Birmingham 2022, with Mirabai Chanu, Jeremy Lalrinnunga, Achinta Sheuli, Sanket Sargar, Bindyarani Rani, Gururaja Poojary, Harjinder Kaur and Vikas all securing podium finishes.

Earlier on Day 4, Harjinder Kaur received a bronze medal with a mixed elevate of 212kg within the Women’s 71kg closing on the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Monday. Nigerian lifter Joy Ogbonne Eze was unsuccessful in all of her three makes an attempt within the clear and jerk spherical, which means Harjinder Kaur grew to become India’s ninth medallist on the Commonwealth Games 2022. England’s Sarah Davies received a gold medal.
