Freya Davies, the England cricket team’s fast bowler, has retired from the sport. The 29-year-old has decided to pursue a career in law. The England Cricket Board made the announcement. Davies played 9 ODIs and 26 T20 matches for England.
Davies’s international career saw her take 33 wickets, with 10 in ODIs and 23 in T20s. Her economy rate in T20s was 6.84. She also played in the Women’s 100 competition, taking 36 wickets in 37 matches. Her final match will be in the Women’s ODI Cup final.
Davies made her debut for Sussex at the age of 14. She was unable to play senior county cricket due to her age at the time. She took her first wicket, which was that of England star Charlotte Edwards. Davies helped Sussex win several titles. In 2019, she was awarded a central contract by the England Cricket Board.
Davies attended Brighton College and earned a law degree from Exeter University. Although cricket presented financial challenges, she was able to continue playing with the support of her parents. Davies took a break from cricket in 2017 to study law before returning and excelling in the Super League. She has not been selected for the T20 team for the last two years and for the ODI team for the last three years, contributing to her decision to retire.
