The ICC has suspended the USA Cricket Board, a move that comes after the USA team’s significant win against Pakistan in the 2024 T20I World Cup. The suspension, decided on September 23rd during a virtual board meeting, means major upheaval is possible for cricket in the United States. The USA team will still be allowed to participate in the next T20I World Cup despite the suspension. The ICC’s action is due to persistent violations of the ICC’s membership responsibilities. A notice was sent to the USA Cricket Board during the annual conference in Sri Lanka last year. The board was subsequently given a three-month period to rectify governance issues during a meeting in Singapore. When the board failed to make the necessary improvements, the ICC took this step. This suspension will not affect the cricket tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where the USA team will participate as the host country.
