The cricket calendar heats up with India scheduled for a T20I series in Ireland this June, a strategic warm-up before their England white-ball tour. Graham Wright, Ireland’s High Performance Director, has greenlit the series, outside ICC FTP parameters, positioning it as prime preparation for Rohit Sharma’s men.

In parallel developments, Paul Stirling has vacated the T20I captain’s chair after Ireland’s World Cup woes. Retaining ODI leadership, Stirling targets 2025 World Cup qualification. Wright commended, ‘Paul’s tenure fused experience with leadership finesse. Post-2028 T20WC qualification, this move empowers a new captain from the India fixture.’

Ireland’s format-split captaincy now features Balbirnie (Tests), Stirling (ODIs), and an impending T20I appointee—reflecting a specialized approach to maximize performances.

Last summer’s 2023 series saw India prevail 2-0 at Malahide, third T20I lost to rain. This return bout promises fireworks, testing India’s depth against Ireland’s refreshed T20 setup and potentially spotlighting captaincy contenders.
