By India Today Web Desk: Shubman Gill is reaping the rewards of his consistency because the India opener hit his maiden T20I hundred within the third and deciding match towards New Zealand in Ahemdabad.

On February 1, Gill turned the fifth Indian to hit centuries in all three codecs after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.

After being picked forward of Ishan Kishan within the latest ODI sequence towards Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Gill opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. He went on to hit an ODI hundred towards Sri Lanka earlier than scoring a double ODI century towards New Zealand.

Gill brilliance with the bat continued as he smashed an ODI hundred towards New Zealand. The right-hander carried his momentum within the T20Is towards New Zealand. In the third and deciding T20I towards the BlackCaps, Gill performed an excellent unbeaten knock of 126 to energy India to 234/4 at Narendra Modi Stadium.

In reply, New Zealand folded for 66 inside 12.1 overs and India gained the sequence 2-1 with an enormous 168-run victory within the third match.

New Zealand stand-in captain Mitchell Santner heaped reward on Gill, saying the batter was in fairly good nick.

“It would have been nice to take the trophy but India played better,” Santner mentioned after shedding the sequence.

“Gill has been in a pretty good nick. It’s tough to win if you lose five in the powerplay. I guess during that time of the year [when the World Cup is planned] there could be a dew around, so the teams will be looking to bowl first. So it might be about restricting teams to 320.”

Gill, who has been taking part in back-to-back matches for India, mentioned that there isn’t any fatigue when one performs for India.

“It feels good when you practise and it pays off. Happy to get the big ones for the team,” Gill mentioned after the match. “When you are representing your country, I don’t think there’s any kind of fatigue, and I am happy to play all three formats.”
