Indian Athletics Series: Sreeshankar Rules Men’s Long Jump in Chennai

Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium hosted the sixth leg of the Indian Athletics Series, where Murali Sreeshankar reaffirmed his status as India’s top long jumper. The Asian Games medalist clinched gold with an 8.04-meter effort, his best of the day from the fourth attempt, backed by valid jumps of 7.90m and 7.97m.

At 27, Sreeshankar is in scintillating form after hitting 8.15m in Bengaluru and 8.12m in South Africa. His consistency positions him as a favorite for upcoming majors.

Drama unfolded in hurdles: Reliance’s Tejas Shirse photo-finished Krishik M in 110m at 13.43 seconds. The 400m hurdles saw Santosh Kumar T, Yashas P, and Jabir MP all under 50 seconds, with 49.47s for gold.

Men’s track results: 100m – Pranav Promod 10.32s; 200m – Rajesh Ramesh 21.23s; 400m – Jay Kumar 46.03s; 800m – Krishna Kumar 1:47.23; 5000m – Abhishek Pal 13:57.02. Under-20: Yuvraj S 21.86s (200m), Haritharan R 47.55s (400m).

Jumps and throws delivered: Adarsh Ram 2.27m (high jump), Praveen Chitravel 16.95m (triple), Sreeshankar 8.04m (long), Arshdeep Singh 77.04m (javelin), Nirbhay Singh 55.54m (discus), S Kumaran 17.66m (shot).

Women’s highlights included Giridharani R’s 11.51s 100m win, Nitya Gandhe’s 24.11s 200m, Poovamma’s 53.38s 400m, Anjali C’s 13.53s U20 100m hurdles, Sherin A’s 6.07m long jump, and Nidhi Rani’s 58.82m discus throw.
