Legendary player Paulo Rosi, who won Italy’s FIFA Football World Cup in 1982 on his own, died on Thursday. He was 64 years old and suffering from incurable disease. Paulo Rosi gave Italy the title after performing brilliantly at the 1982 World Cup. He scored six goals in an amazing performance in the 982 World Cup and single-handedly made Italy the champion. He was the top scorer of that World Cup.

Paulo Rosi died at a time when the football world has not yet recovered from the passing of Argentinian great Diego Maradona. The football world has suffered two major setbacks in a span of just 15 days. Maradona died on 25 November. Paulo was working as an expert in Italy’s RAI Sport TV channel. RAI said on Thursday that Paulo died due to incurable disease. The channel’s sports presenter Enrico Varriel tweeted, “Very sad news, Paulo left all of us and left. Unforgettable Paulo who made all of us proud by winning the 1982 World Cup. He was also a valuable and capable associate in RAI in recent years.

Paulo’s wife Federica Capletti also posted a photo with Paulo on social media, saying, “There will be no one unique and special like you.” Legendary striker Paulo also won the European League Cup and the Copa Italia Cup in his career playing with the famous Juventus Football Club, but he will be most remembered for scoring Italy’s amazing six goals in the 1982 World Cup.
