With a best throw of 84.03 meters, Chopra underperformed compared to his usual capabilities. After the event, he revealed that back pain significantly restricted his training. Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago clinched the gold with a season-best throw of 88.16m. Silver went to Anderson Peters, and bronze to Curtis Thompson. Sachin Yadav from India delivered an impressive performance, finishing fourth with a personal best throw of 86.27m, narrowly missing a medal.
