Excitement builds in New Zealand cricket circles as the Women’s A squad for the Sri Lanka tour is revealed. Comprising three ODIs and three T20Is from May 12 in Dambulla, it spotlights homegrown talents primed for subcontinental tests.

Canterbury’s Brendan Donkers leads coaching duties, assisted by Northern Brave’s Peter Bourne and pathway coach Sarah McGlashan. This trio brings proven strategies to the group.

International flavor comes from seven players: Kelly Knight, Jess Watkin, Bella Armstrong, Fran Jonas, Hannah Rowe, Kate Anderson, and Bella James, setting a high standard.

Kate Anderson’s season was phenomenal, earning the Ruth Martin Cup with 776 runs total, including 560 at 70 average in HBJS. Her top-order prowess is key.

Hearts’ Pru Catton, a Super Smash standout and top scorer, bolsters batting depth.

Bowling boasts fresh faces: Zara Jethly’s 35 wickets for Blaze in summer play, topping domestic lists, alongside Super Smash peer Marama Downs. Emma Black’s 21 HBJS wickets make her indispensable.

The side flies out May 7 for matches on May 12 (ODI), 15 (ODI), 18 (ODI), 21 (T20), 23 (T20), 25 (T20). This pioneering Asian tour will hone skills for the next wave of Kiwi cricketers.
