Paris Paralympics 2024: Indian para athlete Kapil Parmar has won the bronze medal in the men’s para-judo 60 kg category at the Paris Paralympics. With this, he has become the first Indian to win a medal in judo in Paralympic history. In this way, India got the 25th medal. This is India’s 11th bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics.
On the 8th day of the Paralympics in Paris, the 25th medal came in the Para-Judo event. In this, Indian para athlete Kapil Parmar defeated Brazil’s Elitton Oliveira 10-0 and won the bronze medal. Kapil won this bronze medal in the men’s 60 kg J1 category. In his category, Kapil made it to the semi-finals by defeating Venezuela’s Marcos Blanco 10-0 in the quarter-final match. Here Kapil was expected to reach the final but he had to face defeat against the Iranian athlete. In such a situation, Kapil’s last option for the medal was the bronze medal match and this time he capitalized on the opportunity and won the medal in just 33 seconds.
This achievement of Kapil is special in many ways. Kapil, who entered judo in 2017, was India’s first visually impaired judoka to qualify for the Paralympics.
India ranked 14th in medal tally
This is India’s 25th medal, which includes 5 gold, 9 silver and now 11 bronze. In this way, India has reached the 14th position in the medal tally. Indian athletes had created history a day earlier by surpassing the Tokyo Paralympics figure. India had won 19 medals in Tokyo. The Paralympic Games are to run till September 8 and Indian players are still participating in many other events, due to which the figure of 25 is sure to increase.
