By India Today Web Desk: Indian batter Shreyas Iyer stated that he and Ishan Kishan tried to play bowlers on benefit within the second ODI in opposition to South Africa. On Sunday, October 9, Iyer and Kishan placed on 161 runs for the third wicket and helped the Men in Blue beat the Proteas by seven wickets at JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.
After India misplaced the early wickets of Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan of their run-chase, Iyer and Kishan bailed their group out of jail. While Kishan was unfortunate to overlook out on his maiden ODI hundred, Iyer received to his second off 103 balls.
The 27-year-old Iyer stayed unbeaten on 113 with 15 fours as India chased down 279 with 25 balls to spare.
“I am ecstatic, to be honest. When I went in to bat, I spoke to Ishan and he was in the mindset to take on the bowlers. So we decided to play the ball on merit and see how it goes,” Shreyas was quoted as saying within the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Tomorrow is a travel day and then the day after another match. Motivated for that, let’s see what’s in store for me and the team,” he acknowledged. Iyer additionally received the Player of the Match award after India drew stage within the three-match collection.
“I am not someone who changes according to the bowler. I am someone who changes on the instinct. It’s not something I try in the nets first, I change it in the match itself,” Iyer added.
India, captained by Shikhar Dhawan, made a comeback after initially dropping the collection opener in Lucknow.
