While Carlos Alcaraz’s new hairstyle made waves at the start of the 2025 US Open, Jannik Sinner is unfazed. After securing a victory against Vit Kopriva with a score of 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, Sinner expressed his opinion. “No, [I wouldn’t want one myself], but honestly I think everything suits him,” Sinner said. He also commented that Alcaraz’s hair will grow quickly and that it looks good either way. While other tennis figures and fans have reacted with various opinions, Sinner kept his comments simple. Both Sinner and Alcaraz have successfully advanced to the second round, making another potential Grand Slam meeting possible. A third consecutive Grand Slam final between them is a possibility at Flushing Meadows. Their rivalry began at the 2022 US Open. Alcaraz currently leads their Lexus ATP Head2Head matchup 9–5. Discussing their past matches, Sinner discussed how their approach has changed. “Three years back I felt like we were getting to know each other obviously and in different ways, but we also didn’t know exactly what to expect in the future,” he said. “It’s the same now… I feel like when we were very, very young, it was a kind of match where you just go on court and just hit. Now I feel like we have to prepare tactically, we have to prepare it also emotionally and mentally.” He highlighted how their matches have evolved and that their past matches were important to seeing their peak performance from an outside perspective. Though the potential for another match is a topic of discussion, Sinner is concentrating on his own performance. He will play against Alexei Popyrin in the next round, who previously defeated Novak Djokovic and also has a win against Sinner from a past match.
