Sunrisers Hyderabad turned the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium into a cauldron of runs, posting 235/4 against Punjab Kings in IPL 2026 Match 49. Despite losing the toss and batting first, SRH’s aggressive approach set a towering 236-run victory target, keeping their top-table ambitions alive.

The fireworks began with openers Abhishek Sharma (35 off 13: 4×6, 2×4) and Travis Head, who notched 54 in 3.3 overs. Head’s 38 off 19 (3×6, 3×4) came in a 30-run stand with Ishan Kishan. Kishan then unleashed 55 off 32 (4×6, 2×4), partnering Heinrich Klaasen for 88 runs off 48 balls to steady and accelerate.

Klaasen’s 69 off 43 (4×6, 3×4) formed the backbone, especially in a 63-run alliance with Nitish Reddy’s unbeaten 29 off 13. PBKS’ bowlers – Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Vijaykumar Vaishak – snared one each but were outgunned.

Team changes added intrigue: SRH debuted Nitish Kumar Reddy and Sakib Hussain, benching Aniket Verma and Harshal Patel. Pat Cummins led Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (wk), Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora, Smaran Ravichandran, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivang Kumar, Ishan Malinga, and Sakib Hussain.

PBKS freshened up with Shashank Singh, Lockie Ferguson, and Vaishakh Vijaykumar in for Prinyansh Arya, Nehal Wadhera, and Xavier Bartlett. Shreyas Iyer commanded Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Cooper Connolly, Shashank Singh, Suryansh Shedge, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Vijaykumar Vaishak, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal.

As stakes rise in the IPL 2026 playoff push, PBKS faces its sternest test yet. Will they crumble or counterpunch?
