Sumit Antil Leads Medal Haul at Indian Para Athletics Open

Haryana’s Sumit Antil produced the performance of the meet on the closing day of the 8th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championship. Competing in the men’s javelin F64, he unleashed a 74.82-metre throw that not only secured gold but also set the tone for an afternoon of record-breaking throws and personal bests. Maharashtra’s Sandeep Sargar and Rajasthan’s Sandeep followed with silver and bronze.

Rinku extended Haryana’s golden run in the F46 category, while Praveen Kumar claimed the F57 crown. Nishad Kumar’s 2.05-metre clearance in the T47 high jump gave Himachal Pradesh its moment in the spotlight. Track events delivered further excitement as Lalita Kilka, Preeti Pal, and Deepti Jeevanji all stood atop their respective podiums.

Bhavanaben Ajab Chaudhary rounded off the field events with a winning throw of 37.01 metres in the women’s F46 javelin. Across three days, the event served as both a celebration of para sport and a crucial tune-up for athletes targeting upcoming world championships and Paralympic qualification meets.
