After India’s thrilling Super 4 victory against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025, where India won in a super over, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed his support for Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage. The win meant that India would face Pakistan in the final. Yadav offered comfort and support to Wellalage following the death of his father, who passed away on September 18th. The emotional exchange was captured on video and quickly spread across social media. Prior to this encounter, Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, also offered his condolences to Wellalage. Wellalage’s father had a heart attack during the Sri Lanka vs. Afghanistan match. The incident occurred, according to reports, after witnessing his son’s performance. During that match, Mohammad Nabi hit five sixes in a single over bowled by Wellalage. Despite the difficult situation, Sri Lanka won the match by six wickets, eliminating Afghanistan from the tournament.
