Chhattisgarh is poised to host a groundbreaking sporting spectacle: the debut Khel India Tribal Games from March 26 to April 6 in Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, unveiled the details, igniting hopes for tribal athletes nationwide.
Seven core events—athletics, football, hockey, weightlifting, archery, swimming, wrestling—will award medals, complemented by mallakhambh and kabaddi demos. The roster promises fierce competition among players from diverse states and UTs.
Dr. Mandaviya passionately articulated, ‘Khel India Tribal Games embody our drive to platform every game-loving youth.’ This aligns seamlessly with PM Narendra Modi’s vision for a thriving India, powered by sports.
He stressed the games’ significance for tribal talents: early recognition, robust support systems, and seamless entry into elite national frameworks. ‘It’s essential to spotlight and expand from tribal areas,’ he urged.
Bilaspur’s B.R. Yadav Stadium hosted the launch of the logo, theme song, and mascot ‘Morveer’ on December 23, with CM Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy CM Arun Sao present. The name fuses ‘Mor’ (our) and ‘Veer’ (hero), capturing tribal essence.
Backed by the ministry, SAI, IOA, federations, and Chhattisgarh committee, future editions like 2026 will uphold world-class protocols. As the first host, Chhattisgarh sets a benchmark for inclusive sports growth.
Under the Khelo India banner, declared a must-air event in 2020, KITG fosters participation and excellence, heralding a new era of empowerment for India’s tribal youth.
