Uthappa: SRH Bowling Faces Tough Test on Home Soil in IPL 2026
1 min readFormer Indian batter Robin Uthappa has cast doubts over Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) IPL 2026 title hopes, pinpointing their bowling vulnerabilities on the notoriously flat Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium pitch. While their batting packs a punch, Uthappa argues it’s no match for sustained success without a potent attack.
In his Jio Hotstar commentary, Uthappa appreciated the thrill of SRH’s fearless batting but warned of overreliance. ‘Such aggression delights fans, but bowlers win IPLs,’ he noted. Home games here – seven in total – become batting bonanzas, where stalwarts like Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have leaked runs profusely.
Uthappa praised Bhuvneshwar’s cunning: swinging deliveries, pace deception, and lethal yorkers. Last season’s sixth-place finish, after 2024’s final run, stemmed directly from bowling lapses that prevented game dominance.
Adding to the drama, captain Pat Cummins battles fitness, paving the way for Ishan Kishan to helm the side early on. The campaign launches March 28 versus RCB at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
For SRH to peak, they need bowlers engineered for flat decks. Uthappa’s prognosis: Strengthen the attack, or risk another trophyless year despite batting brilliance.
