Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya kicked off International Women’s Day celebrations in Kolkata by joining the vibrant Fit India Pink Cyclothon. He firmly stated that bolstering women through sports and fitness is essential for family stability, societal advancement, and national growth.
The Sunday on Cycle program continued its nationwide fervor, with Kolkata’s event promoting cycling as a cornerstone of healthy living and eco-friendliness. Mandaviya noted these gatherings cultivate discipline, fitness awareness, and shared accountability.
‘Women’s empowerment in sports strengthens the very fabric of our society,’ the minister emphasized. Empowered women lead thriving households and communities, forming the bedrock of a prosperous India.
The pedaling parade included elite athletes: Olympian Bombayla Devi Laishram (Arjuna awardee), Piyali Basak (Everest climber), Avinash Kumar Gupta (Scouts Commissioner), Adrijja Sarkhel (national football goalie), and Sushmita Singha Roy (Olympian).
This cyclothon stems from Mandaviya’s December 2024 launch of Fit India Sunday on Cycle, an extension of PM Modi’s Fit India Movement from 2019. Designed for weekly recurrence, it transforms fitness into a lifestyle, dedicating the latest round to female empowerment.
With Kolkata buzzing from the event, Mandaviya’s vision resonates: fitness on wheels is rolling India towards a fitter, fairer future.
