Govt offers inexperienced sign to SEC for city polls

BHUBANESWAR: As the panchayat elections are within the ultimate levels, the State authorities on Wednesday cleared the trail for city elections giving its consent to the State Election Commission (SEC) for beginning the train.

In two separate notifications, the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) division stated that it’s expedient to carry elections to reconstitute 107 municipalities, notified space councils (NACs) and three municipal firms because the phrases of the elected representatives have been accomplished. The municipal firms are Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC).

The time period of workplace of the elected chairperson, councillors of a municipality other than mayor and corporators of a municipal company is 5 years from the date of their first assembly convened underneath Odisha Municipal Act, 1950 and Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003 respectively.

The Chandabali, Dhamnagar, Bijepur and Remuna NACs are newly constituted. “The State government hereby calls upon all wards in the city of BMC, CMC and BeMC to elect mayors and corporators in accordance with the provisions of the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act and Rules and orders made thereunder,” the H&UD division notification stated.

The State authorities additionally known as upon all of the wards in municipal areas, besides Bhadrak municipality to elect the chairpersons and councillors.
