39 prisoners serving life sentence in Jharkhand jails will be released, CM Hemant gave approval

Ranchi: The 31st meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board was held today in the Jharkhand Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. In the meeting, a review was done regarding the release of 74 prisoners serving life sentence in various jails of the state. In the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren, in the light of the recommendation of the State Sentence Review Board, after thorough discussions and review with the officials for the release of 74 prisoners serving life sentence in various jails of the state, gave his approval to the decision to release 39 prisoners. In the course of the review, after discussing point-wise the opinion of the courts, Superintendent of Police of the concerned districts, Jail Superintendent and Probation Officer, a consensus was reached to release 39 prisoners.

Connect the released prisoners to the mainstream of society

In the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren directed the officials to verify the family background, social and economic status of the prisoners released after serving life sentence in various jails of the state in the light of the recommendation by Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board. The Chief Minister said that a special action plan should be made for income generation for the livelihood of the released prisoners. The Chief Minister said that the released prisoners should be linked to skill development programs. To connect them with employment, they should be given the benefit of schemes like dairy farm, poultry farm, animal husbandry etc. The Chief Minister said that after being released from prison, these prisoners should not face any social problem in living and should not face financial crisis, for this a better plan should be prepared and they should be linked to self-employment. The Chief Minister said that information should also be taken about the family status of those prisoners who are released who have become old. The Chief Minister said that it is also the moral responsibility of all of us to connect the released prisoners with the mainstream of society.

Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Avinash Kumar, Principal Secretary-cum-Law Advisor Law (Justice) Department Nalin Kumar, Principal Secretary Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department Mrs. Vandana Dadel, Judicial Commissioner, Ranchi Diwakar Pandey, Director General and Inspector General of Police Jharkhand Anurag Gupta, Inspector General of Prisons Jharkhand Sudarshan Prasad Mandal and other officers were present in the meeting.
